Green Tea Leaf Extract

What it is:

Green Tea Leaf Extract is a concentrated form of the active compounds found naturally in green tea leaves. These compounds include polyphenols, particularly catechins such as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).

Benefits:

Cachectins are known for their antioxidant properties and ability to promote thermogenesis (increased calorie burning) and fat oxidation.

Science:

This 2009 meta-analysis found that green tea extract has a stronger effect on weight loss when compared to placebo. The authors analyzed results from 978 subjects across 11 randomized controlled trials comparing two groups -- one with green tea extract and one with a placebo. Additionally, each group was subjected to a calorie deficit, ensuring that the results were attributed to the green tea extract rather than just the effect of eating less.
